Dead by Daylight unveils its first LGBTQIA+ character

As part of the upcoming 11th tome, Dead by Daylight has revealed its first LGBTQIA+ character. The lore entries in this season’s tome will flesh out the backstory of popular survivor David King and his struggle to come to terms with his homosexuality. As an LGBTQIA member of the Dead by Daylight community myself, I’m really happy to see representation in one of my favorite games.

“Since his introduction in Dead by Daylight, survivor David King has quickly become a fan favorite. Currently occupying a comfortable top ten position as one of the most played survivors in the kingdom, David is a hot-tempered rogue with a penchant for good scrap, whose time as a debt collector has caused both internal and external pain.Although a fragment of his pre-Fog life has previously been revealed, much remains to be uncovered. Throughout DEVOTION, fans will discover that part of his personal struggles revolve around coming to terms with his own identity and sexuality. David’s Memories will take players to a pub, where a conversation about romantic relationships l will lead to talk more about her personal life, including a former boyfriend.

Bringing inclusivity and representation to life in meaningful ways in the storytelling of Dead by Daylight has been a priority for the development team over the past few years. Creating content devoid of negative tropes, rather than just ticking a box, was the top priority for creators. To achieve this, the team collaborated with GaymerX, a consulting organization dedicated to providing best practices for integrating LGBTQIA2+ themes into established games. The non-profit organization was specifically offering support around the content of the game and how to approach stories of diversity without falling into harmful portrayal.

Along with this, a new Progress Pride Flag Charm can be unlocked by entering the code PRIDE2022 in the Dead by Daylight store. Survivors and Slayers alike can share their pride with this nifty little cosmetic, and I know I’ll be wearing it the next time I log on.
